'-‘it. *■ ME. J. F. ROBSON RETIRES : SCHOOL GATHERING (Herald Correspondent.) The pupils of the Wairoa District High School, together with their teachers, school committee and parents, assembled! in the school grounds oh Friday to mark the occasion of the retirement of the headmaster, Mr J: T. Robson, after 40 years’ . service, 13 years of which was spent in Wairoa. Mr- A. Mudgway, first assistant, accepted the duties as chairman for the occasion, and explained that \ during Mr.' Hobson’s term at Wairoa the school had made great progress, and Mr Robson was to be congratulated on his achievement, the school having grown' to its present position of one of the most, important in Hawke’s Bay. Mr Robson’s experience and ability wore amply demonstrated in 'the progress of the pupils under his care, many having covered themselves with honor and distinction. Before the proceedings commenced, Mrs Robson was presented with a pretty bouquet by Miss L. Henry. lAt the conclusion of the opening speech, Mr Mtidgway, presented Mr ' Hobson with a handsome hall clock and Mrs Robson with a crystal bowl from the teaching staff, dental nutse and school committee. Others who spoke, wishing Mr and Mrs Hobson health and happiness in thbir future lives, were Mr I. A. Isdale, on behalf of the secondary department, and Mr S.-M. Ashburn, on behalf of the school committee. In his reply, Mr Robson mentioned the splendid spirit displayed by .the people of the district. He referred to the case of Mr Bickqrton, whose arrest in Japan was cabled some time ago. The speaker said that no one was more loved by his "pupils than that teacher. Mr Bickerton felt a great love for mankind, and had not deserved the treatment meted out to him in Japan. Later, Mr Robson was presented with a handsome leather suitcase from members of the Teachers’ Institute, Mr Hueston making the presentation.
