EXCEEDED ALL HOPES
EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS N.Z DELEGATE returns (I'cr Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Bishop Liston, who returned to-day after attending the Eucharistic Congress in Melbourne, said it exceeded the high hopes of its promoters. Tito' cordial friendliness of the civic authorities and the general public was one important factor in its success. The official reception of the cardinal legate in the. Town Hall by the I’reinier and Lord Mayor was one of the most dignified and happy functions lie had ever seen. It was felt that the friendliness of all sections of the community would do much for the public life of Australia, and, the striking manifestations of religious faith had made a deep impression on all. Bishop Liston mentioned that both the papal legate, Cardinal Macrory, and <ho Archbishop of Liverpool, Dr. Downey, were nnxiotis to visit New Zealand, atid he thought that it was quite possible that they woidd do so when returning to England.
