BUTTER MARKETING
CAUSE OF LOW PRICES ST ATE INTER FEE EN CE ENG El SI I FIRM’S COMMENT (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Dec. 18, 11 a.in.) LONDON, Dec. 17. In an advertisement in the newspaper Grocer, tlie well-known provision linn of Messrs. Aplin and Barrett, commenting on the enormous difference in the, price of Danish and Empire butters, savs that certain colonial butter would bo above the present level but for the. action of the Dominion authorities, especially New Zealand. Vast sums of money that are expendpended on advertising are practically thrown away, and the effects nullified by legislative measures. New Zealand’s recent regulations prohibiting speculative buying by importers mean that all butter, whatever the quantity of it may be, must be cleared off] the market before the next arrivals are landed. This has established a lower level of prices, and Australian had to come down, too.
It was high time that the Colonials came to their senses and allowed importers to conduct their own business.
