CONTROL OF TAXICABS AMENDMENTS ORBERED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Holding that tho City Council could not charge license fees on motor cabs not plying for hire, Mr. Justice Johnston gave reserved judgment in the Supreme Court this- morning in the case in which Charles Seymour Trillo, manager fo Gold Band Taxis, sought an order or orders quashing portions of a new City Council by-law dealing with the regulation and licensing of taxi cabs irt Christchurch. The judge upheld the council’s right to fix minimum and maximum fares, and to regulate the number of taxicab licenses in tho city. Tho council, he said, could charge license fees only for motor vehicles that plied for hire, ami in this respect appropriate amendments to the by-law would have to be made.
