END OF SCHOOL YEAR
GISBORNE FUNCTIONS CONCERT AND XMAS TREE The close of tint school year at Hie Gisborne, Central School was marked by a concert held in tint City lla.ll last night and a Christmas tree this afternoon. Tlie concert last evening was for Ihe older pupils, and: proved an outstanding success from an entertainment point of view. The Christmas tree this afternoon was for tile primers, and each child received a gift from Santa Claus. The excel Mice of the concert programme was referred to by the chairman of the school committee, Mr. J. H. Sunderland, when he addressed the large audience towards the dose. He said that for so short a time at the disposal of the organisers, tlie .programme was a particularly good one. He thanked the teachers and children for their efforts and also those from outside the school who contributed items. The programme was as follows: Instrumental trio, Messrs. Neill, Wise and Harris; song, “Rendezvous,” Btd. 4; recitation, “The Yellow Dog,” J. Ransom; song, ‘-“The Harvest Bong,” Form 2; song, “Cherry Ripe,” L. Bignall; play, “Funny Bunny Rabbit,” infants; recitation, “The Farmer,” L. Murray; song, “Sweet and Low,” the sJehool; tap dance, Tui Monzies; song, “A Lullaby,” B. Reynolds; play, “The Toys’ Party,” Btd. 1; skipping dance, N. firoig; life saving, Form 2; song, “I Love the Moon,” Btd. 4; round, “Hark, the Indian .Drum,” the school; operatic dance, V. Sutton; song “Buna,” G. Goldsack; play, “On the Road to Samarkand,” Form 1; humorous recitation, Mr Lyall; song, “To Music,” Std. 4; .reeitatin, “Behind the Gate,” E. Paulgrairi; operatic dance, L. Jackson, duet, “Juanita,” J. and M. Humphrey; “The Awkward Squad,” form 1; song, “On 'Wings of Song,” St. 4; recitation, , “Lord Fontleroy,” P. Pollock; folk dances, St. 4; song, “Pluck the Rosebuds,” the school. t 'At the Christmas party for the primers, the children were entertained with singing games, recitations, dances, folk dances and Christmas carols. The programme opened with the singing game, “Green Gravel” and “Pop Goes the Weasel,” and was followed by • the following programme;—Recitation, Nance Murray; recitation, “The Daisy,” Dorothy fieri fifth; Christmas songs, “Away in a Manger” anil “Why Do Bells on Christmas Ring?”; singing' game. “Fair Rosie”; recitation, “Dr. Brown,” Bill Moss; recitation, “The Crab,” Keith Btir-hbury; dance, “Biscuit Basket.” With the singing of tlie Christmas song, “Barita Claus is Coining,” Father Christmas entered tlie ball, and handed out the gifts from the Christinas tree. Each child received a present.
