Yesterday mornings fire alarm was caused by an outbreak ai Mr. B. Hird's property'in Harris street, a fowl-house having 'taken fire. The brigade was turned out, and made short'work of the blaze, though the building was badly gulfed. Mr. Hird had been working about the building during the morning, and apparently the lire was caused by some snark overlooked by him when he singed the walls of the structure in the course of a fumigation process. Judgment for plaintiffs by default was given by Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court this morning in the following civil actions.—The commissioner of taxes v. Elizabeth Alice. Bowen. £3 10s and costs 10s; .1. E. Mercer v. Montepetto, £2 and costs £1 3s 6d; Herbert Cooper v. Joe lluatai, £l2 6s 4d and costs £2 19s. Judgment summons orders were made as follow :--Allen Brothers and Johnstone, Limited v. Frederick. Goodman, £39 19s Id. in default 40 days imprisonment: J. K- Mercer v. Rangi Jones, £lO Bs, in default 10 days' imprisonment.
