AGREEMENT PREDICTED
BRITAIN AND IRELAND
POINT OF SIGNATURE
LONDON, Dec. 15.
Reynolds News' diplomatic correspondent says that a new treaty between Britain and Ireland is on the point of signature. An agreement, it says, lias been reached on the following points: Britain to forgo the right to collect Irish land annuities and aoolish all duties on Irish goods entering England; and Ireland to grant the British Air Ministry facilities to establish coastal and other air bases in Ireland.
The preliminary negotiations have already been carried out between Mr. J. H. Thomas and Alderman Byrne, who helped to pave the way for the 1921 treaty.
The writer suggests that Ulster is expected to lessen objections to a United Ireland plan on the ground that the agreement is dictated by the necessity of ensuring that Ireland, in the event of war, will not become a base for hostile aircraft and submarines.
