Sergeant McGregor expalined that the complainant, Chamberlain, lived at Runtaniwha, and Castles, who was "hard up," got. in touch with him, and was invited to stay there. Later Wi Fori joined him, and the complainant practically kept Wi Fori. On December 5 Wi Fori filled in a cheque form for Chamberain, who was unable to write at the time. He drew a cheque for £1 according to the figure at the bottom of the cheque, but later added a naught, making it £lO, and 'filled in the body of ■ the chequp in the same way. E. A. Ottnway was fined £1 and costs 10s for being found on licensed premises during prohibited hours. Jimmy Tahe, the subject of a Maori prohibition order, was fined £2 and costs 10s for a breach of the order.
