POVERTY PAY EXECUTIVE
The Poverty Hay provincial executive ot the New Zealand Farmers’ Union met to-day. There were present: Messrs ,). H. 'Benson, president, M. T. Trafford, ,T. E. P.rosmVhau, F. S. Ifowen, D. J. Gumming, 0. Tietjen, (t. O. Donovan, C. Field, G. A’. Smith, and F. Hobbs. ll -was decided to organise a sheep drive in order to help to reduce the union’s overdraft. Arens lor canvassing .by. members of the executive were arranged. The Minister nf Finance, the HI. Hon. .1. G. Con les, wrote acknowledging the copy of a resolution passed by the executive with regard to the adjustment of excessive mortgages, and added: “The problem to ’which the remit refers has been under the inum'di,ate attention of Ihe 'Government, and you will know from Ihe press that it is intended in be dealt with in .Parliament when we resume early next year. You .may he assured that the .views put forward on behalf of your executive will have every attention.” —Further consideration of the .matter was deferred.
It was decided to send a further resolution of protest to the Prune Minister against any proposal to remove the live stock embargo, and regretting his at titude* as disclosed in his recent statements of another outbreak
of foot-a.nd-mont li disease in Eng laud.
The Unemployed Workers’ Movement wrote asking for a donation to the fund for the children’s picnic to be hold cm the Butene road reserve about New Year’s Day.—-The letter was received.
The To Knraka proposal, spoken to by Mr Hobbs, that there should be greater contact between Dominion headquarters and branches was endorsed.
