STIR IN COURT
COUNSEL THREATENED WOMAN WITH A CHAIR (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. An Italian woman who lost a case in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday afternoon created a sudden stir when she angrily picked up a chair and prepared to throw it across the room in tho direction of opposing counsel. The court orderly seized her and hustled her outside, where her shouts could be heard for some time after the case finished.
Her name was Maria Canal, and on the complaint of Lucia do .Santa she was bound over by Mr. E. Page, S.M., to be of good behavior for 12 months. Tho amount of the bond was £25, and tho costs against her totalled £4 3s. Speaking through an, interpreter, the complainant said that the defendant had written her letters containing threats, including one to hit her with an iron-handled umbrella.
The defendant also spoke through an interpreter.
