WAIROA NEWS

(Herald Correspondent.) A deputation from the Nuhaka and Waikokopu branch of the Labor Party, was granted permission .at the meeting of the Wairoa County Council to ventilate a complaint of alleged victimisation of relief workers by a council employee. The deputation comprised Messrs. Jennings, Begley, and O’Sullivan. Mr Jennings said they desired to secure the co-operation of the council in an endeavor to get redress. After hearing the speakers the council was told that one of the men referred to by the deputation had reported to the council that he had nothing of which to complain, and that certain money sent back to Wellington was according to regulations. It was also stated that the man did not go to the appointed place at the appointed time and the council employee had to get away to Maliia, and at all times showed great patience in dealing with the natives. Another man had been put on a road by himself. Cr. Carroll said lie was sure the council would not stand for victimisation, if there had been any, and none had been shown to have occurred. The employee could be depended on to that no such thing occurred. A motion to this effect was carried.
