THURSDAY MATCHES FIRST INNINGS WINS Both matches in the Poverty Bnv Cricket Association’s Thursday competition at the Oval yesterday afternoon were won on the first innings, Retailers defeating Cash Stores, and Wanderers defeating R.S.A.

In the latter match R.S.A. were dismissed for 108, the principal scorers being Bignaß, jun. (32), Barbour (12), and R. Nicholson (11). Wanderers replied with a total of 139, P. H. Dow playing a fine innings for 74, while R. Carr made 36, and Sebire 12.

RETAILERS V. CASH STORES Bright batting by Retailers gave them a victory over Cash Stores by 60 runs on the first innings. Cash Stores batted first, but found the bowling of I»\ Newton and G. Stewart unmanageable, and were all out for 77, It. H. Carroll (28) and G. Filo (10, not out) being the only batsmen to reach double figures. Newton finished with five wickets for 28, and Stewart four for 27. Retailers played a merry innings, arid declared with nine wickets down for 137. Foster was the top-scorer, with' 44, while Coker made 26 and G. Slade 22. For Cash Stores, C. Scholium finished with the fine average of three wickets For five runs. Cash Stores did better when they batted for the second time, and at stumps had scored 90 for the loss of only three wickets. McLean was then 46. not out, and R. Carroll 28, not out. Details: —

TE ARAROA V. HICKS BAY (Herald Correspondent.) The Te Araroa Cricket Club visited Hicks Ray last week-end to play a match against Hicks Bay eleven, the latter winning on the first innings.
