P.B.ft.C. SHIELD CREWS SELECTIONS ANNOUNCED FOUR OARS AND PAIRS

Selections from the active membership of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club, for the annual inter-club contests for thg§.V'.A. Shield and the Harris and IllFshield, for four-oar and pair-oar rowing- respectively, have been announced by the committee of the club. The selections are, as usual, subject to revision, should circumstances warrant it; but) it is expected that; the crews will go to the post practically as they have been named. The senior four is naturally of the ■greatest interest, and this year the Poverty Bay club has practically the same crew as that which won the senior two-mile event- last year. In other divisions of both shield competitions, the representation of the club will be strong, and there are among it he’•'■hew representative men several who'can be relied on to develop considerably during the training period of. six Nvecks. The committees of both the Gisborne and Poverty Bay rowing clubs are preparing their crews for tne regatta to be held next week, in connection with the visit of the Duke of Gloucester to Gisborne. An effort is 'being made to organise one of the most successful ■ features of the celebrations, and With the material at hand in the two dubs, it should be possible to furnish a highly spectacular display.
