HORSE JUMPS INTO CROWD
SEVERAL PEOPLE HURT it EXCITEMENT AT SHOW (Per Press Association.) INVERCARGILL. lasi night. Four people were taken to hospital this afternoon as the result oi a sensational accident in tin ring at the Royal Show.
When the grand parade war, nearing its end. a saddle horse, ridden by Miss Hillary Jones, of Invercargill, took the bit between its teeth and bolted round the ring. Miss ,lours remained firmly in the saddle as the, horse galloped round. To. the honor of the spectators, it suddenly leapt the rails round which many people- were clustered and landed right among them. The rider fainted from the shock of the accident, hut was unhurt.
A family named Schmidt were the chief sufferers from (he animal s living hoofs. Katrina Schmidt. 7. is si ill in hospital suffering from a fractured arm and Miss Nellie Schmidt, ainil nl the little girl, is an inmate suffering from injured ribs and bruises on the tare. Marjorie .Schmidt,- 9. a third member of tbe family, who was sent to hospital, was discharged, as was Mrs. Moylan, who was standing in the group where the horse landed. The mother of the injured' children was knocked over. 1 nil escaped injury, though she suffered slightly from fdiock. The horse, Mr. W. Hastier’ Royal Lady, was not injured, and Inter took part in the championship jump.
