COUNTRY CRICKET

SCHOLLUMS’ GOOD WIN RE AY DISILLUSIONED (Herald Correspondent.) After a Rip Y r nn Winkle sleep, from a cricketer's viewpoint, the Scholium family awoke to surprise Reay Bridge by an innings and 64 runs. Noticeable absentees from the Scholium team of a few years back were Joe, sen. and jnn. (Auckland), Ray (Christchurch), Tom and Pat (Mntawai), Cyril and Ron. who were selected for this game, were absent in the country, and their places were filled bv K. McKenzie and D. Oovcll, YVaingake. Jock and Bernie. who have represented Poverty Bay on many occasions, were as versatile as ever, while Clem, Len, and Reg played very attractive cricket. Don, the 12-year-old representative ot the team, shaped like a veteran, taking a very good catch and getting a wicket at the bowling crease.

The Scholiums knocked up 304 runs in their first strike, Bernie, Len, Clem, and Jock taking heavy toll of the bowling. In their second strike the order was reversed, and several wickets fell cheaply until Clem and Andy became associated. These two gave an exhilarating display, and were still together at stumps. R. Field took five wickets in each innings, and also fielded well. L. Hanson was the only batsman to make a stand in Rcav Bridge’s first strike, and R. Field and Honan in the follow-on. .Toek and Len Scholium bowled unchanged in Renv Bridge’s first innings. Scores:—■

Bowling. —Bernio, three for 15; Clem, three for 20; Don, one for 28; Lea, one for 10; Jock, throe for 0. Having made a fresh start, the Scholiums are not letting the grass grow under their foot, arid have engaged tho Parker family for a match at Tntapouri next week-end. In the early days the Parkers of Emerald Hills used to supply eight or nine members of the Ranginni Club, which had its headquarters at the Rcay. The players included .Tim,, captain, Jack, Dan, Bob, Frank, Dave, pat, and Joe. With a stiffening of the younger generations of Parkers and the Honans, a really good side should’ lie chosen.

CRICKETER’S SELECTION

RMoloney, who has boon transferred to Wellington and who is leaving Dunedin next week, is included in the Otago team to meet Wellington in the Plurikefc Shield match at Wellington this month.
