CLOSE RACING AUSTRALIAN COMPETES (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Close racing was seen at the tepicl baths to-night when the Australian swimmer, Clark, met Jarvis (Otago) in 50 and 100yds events, and Low, the Canterbury .champion, in the 100yds backstroke. Clark won the 50vds by a touch from j Jarvis ill 26 4-ssec.. while the 100yds was won by Jarvis by inches in 56 4-ssec. In Hie backstroke Low led until 7yds ifrom the finish, Clark winning on the tonch. His time jwas SSsec. Tickle tfon'the invitation dive and outclassed the opposition.
