LAND FOR GERMANY
RECLAMATION WORK \ JOBS FOR UNEMPLOYED BERLIN, Nov. 17. Holland's remarkable success in reclaiming the Zuider Zee from the waves is, it is hoped, to be emulated by Germany among the West Friesian Islands lying off the North Sea coast" of German Schleswig. During the last 200 years these islands have been deprived by the encroachment of the sea of about half of their former area. Within the memory of man storms have carried away parts even of the mainland. Tlie Nazi Government wants more land for the settlement of Germany’s surplus population, which is likely to be increased by Herr Hitler’s policy of promoting 'marriages and large families. Moreover, reclamation of the lost portions of the islands provides work for a large number of the unemployed. At the .moment seven divisions of the Labor Service —IfiOfl men —are engaged on the task.
