WOOL PRICES FIRM
CHRISTCHURCH SALES RECENT RATES OBTAIN 35% DROP ON LAST YEAR (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Values at the first Christchurch wool sale were on a par with those at North Island sales this season. Crossbred wool, of which there was comparatively little offering, was fully firm on recent northern sales. Fleece wools sold at about .lid per lb. Values all round were down by about 35 per cent on 'those at the first kale last season, and fleece Wool, which brought lSd per lb. then, sold today for about lid. Prices were only slightly above those ruling at the sales immediately after the raising of the exchange fate. Bradford buyers were keen for lower qualities, but their limits were too low •to secure muck of the lialfbred wool. France, Japan, and local mills competed strong for fine wools, .a good deal of which went to local works. The latter were keen buyers of super wools.
