INCREASE IN WAGES
KALGOORLIE MINERS EFFECT ON COMPANIES KALGOORLIE, Dec. 12. A new award is imminent for miners, who are receiving an increase of 8s a week, which will add about £I6OO to the weekly wages bill of the Golden Mile mine, where 4000 are employed, and about £BOO a week to the Lake View and Star Company, .reducing the monthly profit from £SOOO to £3200. The surface workers’ hours are being reduced from 4£ to 44, which will add £650 to the cost of production. Mr. W. S. Robinson, who has been associated with many leading mining companies, discussing gold mining,' said he had no fear about the price of gold. There was bound to be fluctuations, but the trend would be upward, There should be a steady increase in mining activity.
