BALL IN RUATORIA (Herald Correspondent.) On Thursday last, the Ruatoria Golt Club held its animal ball in the new > Gaiety Theatre. Owing to the influenza which is at present prevalent in the district, the attendance was not as large as expected, but in spite of this a j very enjoyable time was spent by those present. The hall was brightly decorated with I large bunches of balloons, while tho sapper-room tables were very gay with large bowls o! Dorothy Perkin roses and sweet peas. The ditnee music was supplied by Mrs.' Menzics’ orchestra. A statue competition, which caused much amusement, was won by Mrs. Boagey ami Mr. Spencer, and the Monte Carlo dance was won by Miss Hills and Mr. ID Harrison. Among those present were Mesdamos P. G. Wicksteed were Ruatoria visitors to Gisborne this week. —Miss A. Burdett paid a brief visit to Hawke’s Bay this week.—Mys. Joblin, and Miss I. Joblin, who have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. E. Joblin, East Coast, have returned to Gisborne. The many friends of Mrs. Norman Branson, who is an inmate of the Waiapu Hospital, will be pleased to learn that she is improving' satisfactorily after a recent serious accident. Mr. R. Sowell is the gifott of Mrs. C. H. McCracken, Te Puia Springs.--Miss Peters has been the guest-of Mrs. P, G.
