NEW AIR SERVICE

TO THE WEST COAST START NEXT MONTH It is anticipated that the new air service from Hokitika to the southern settlements in Westland will be started by December 18. the company, Air Iravel (New Zealand), Limited, has already received a number of inquiries about the new; service, and has attracted strong interest from the residents of the area, where travel is often slow and precarious. ' Mr. J. 0. Mercer, managing director of the company, stated that the Fox Moth ordered from England for the service wasi expected to be assembled by the end "of this week, and he hoped to flv the machine to Hokitika on December 14. A hangar had been erected at the Hokitika aerodrome, where the machine would be permanently housed. , Air Travel, Limited, will co-operate with the Railway Department and existing surface transport organisations for the benefit of people who wish to make the trip the Fox and Franz Jose) Glaciers, and passengers will be picked up at Inchbonnie. Landing grounds have been prepared at fnchboonie, Fray/. Josef and Fox Olaciers, Bruce Bay, Haast, and Okuru. They have temporary licenses at present, but will probably b 9 fully licensed in time. ' . The South Westland mail contract has nlsp been secured by Air Travel, Limited, and this service will be inaugurated on December 31. The mail will leave Hokitika at- 8.15 a.m., arid the aeroplane will reach Okuru at 11 a.m- The return trip will be’ at 1 p.m., and after calling At Bruce Bay and the Haast, the Fox Moth will arrive back at Hokitika at 3,46 p.m.
