SHIPPING COMPETITION
NEW BRITISH SHIPS REPLY TO FOREIGNERS LONDON, Nov. 19. The Daily Express says that shipowners are faced with the most terrific competition in maritime history and are ordering more new ships for the Empire routes than ever. Forty-two passenger and cargio boats, modelled on the latest designs, are on the stocks in British yards and orders for 12 more are likely to be placed before March. Orders placed in the past year mean £l3 003,0C0 for British shipbuilders and work for 50.000 artisans. The facts mean that shipowners have concluded that this is the only method of fighting further inroads by foreignowned vessels.
