OBITUARY

MR. E. C. LEARY (Por Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The death occurred at his home in Wellington of Mr Edward Cooper Leary, a partner in the firm of Messrs. Leary and Handyside, sharebrokers and public accountants, of Wellington. Mr. Leary, who was 59 years of age, was born at Burnside, near Dunedin, and was a son of Mr. R. H. Leary, who was Mayor of Dunedin for several successive years. For many years Mr. E. C. Leary was secretary of tho Kelbura Tramway Company. He was a widower and there are no children. MR, PETER DAVIES (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The death has occurred of Mr Peter Lloyd Davies, aged 64 years, formerly a well-known land agent and keen sportsman. He was an ex-president of the Canterbury Football Association and a prominent bowler and Freemason. MR. WILLARD MACK (Received Nov. 20, II a.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 19. A message from Beverly Hills, California, states -that Willard Mack, the playwright, actor, and, motion picture director, died on Sunday night from, a heart attack; aged 56 years.

The death occurred at Grcymouth on Tuesday of Mrs. Johamiah Sweetman, aged 74, a native of County Kerry. She came to New Zealand 50 years ago, and lived for many years with her late husband at Tryagain terrace, Nelson Creek. During recent years, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J. Keating, oi Kumara. Hhe also leaves seven sons, John (Nelson Creek), Michael and Patrick (Wellington), Thomas (Wairoa), Richard (Greymouth), Peter (Cobden), and Gus (Kumara). Mr. John Wallace, whose association with the stage as comedian, dancer, and producer extended over a record period, died at Liverpool (N.S.W.) recently, aged 95 years. Ho made his debut in Rigland in 1851, at the age of 10 years, and maintained an active interest in stage productions until he was well over 80 years old. It was in the play “La Fille dn Tambour Major” which Mr. Wallace produced for Mr. George Musgrove in Australia in the early ’eighties, that Nellie Stewart obtained her first important part.
