The township of Gunning was rocked against last night by earthquake shocks, accompanied by subterranean thunder. They shook the district at intervals from 5 p.m. till midnight. A number of women ran frantically from their homes, but most residents were calm. Many chimneys were broken, and there are fallen ventilators and leaking tanks all over the town. Most of the buildings are of brick or stone, and they show cracks of varying sizes.

Reports are arriving front various southern towns regarding the earth tremor yesterday. One house two miles outside of Gunning was so severely damaged that it has become uninhabitable.
