Bidi Bidi Parasite
Till'] sawily parasite, imported' ■from * Chile for the attempted control of hidi biili in New Zealand by the Cawthron Institute, is showing decided promise of burr destruction under oliservalion on a restricted area at Nelson, and Dr. David Miller, of the, entomological department of the Caw - thron Institute, states that the parasite will be ready for / liberation this season.
The particular saw fly imported for the job has been so successful in Chile thill i! is now difficult to find extensive areas of bid'i bidi. flic sawfly grul) attacks the burr in the flower stage.
Unfortunately, it is also difficult to obtain adequate supplies of the do-st-ructive tl.v from that easy-going country. This slow ness in supply has retarded the development and liberation of the parasite in New Zealand. Cost is no! nn obstacle; the total cost of obtaining sufficient supplies from 8011th America would be only £llO.
