COMBINED SPORTS

GUIDES AND BROWNIES SUCCESSFUL GATHERING The Girl Guides and Brownies of the Gisborne division held their first combined sports meeting on Saturday afternoon at the Childers road reserve, when, under ideal weather conditions, a thoroughly enjoyable day was spent. The gathering afforded an excellent opportunity for the town and country Guides and Brownies to meet, and for them to display’ their activities tri tlie public. The sports commenced at .10 o’clock, and throughout the morning the Guides were engaged in running off the heats of their various events, the afternoon being taken up with the finals, after a delightful picnic lunch had been partaken of. The Guides taking part in the sports comprised the first, second, third, and fourth Gisborne companies, and the Mariutuke, Muriwai, Patutahi, Te Ivaraka, and Toiaga Bay companies.

The following officials controlled the gathering: —Judges, Mosdames I* Balfour and E. Andrew; starter, Mrs A: Andrews; assistants, Misses W. Lysnar and Woodlicad; track stewards, Misses L. Davys, M. McKinley, and A. Bell; stewards, Missies Price, McDonald, Gray, and' Humphreys. The events for the Brownies were controlled by 'Misses N- Greed, Meredith and 'Martlien s. The following commissioners were present:—Mrs L. Balfour, 'Gisborne divisional; .Mrs R. Andrew, Gisborne district; Mrs R. K. Murphy, Muriwai district.

The first Gisborne company came top of the day’s events, with Mangapapa second. A pleasant afternoon tea function was followed by a brief expression of thanks to the divisional commissioner, after which the singing of “Taps” brought a very enjoyable function to a close.
