QIBBOKNL wool stores, for the iirst time for several years, are starting I lie new wool selling season free from past- accumulations, thanks to the exceptionally good' prices realised last season.

That is one factor which will be in favor of eli|is offered during the 198188 selling period, which commences at Auckland on November 87, followed by Napier on December 8. Wonie of the clips on offer last season dated back three years. This carry-over wool was a feature of the first sales.

Right through ’lasi season a high p*recntage of the offerings was disposed of, in many cases thorn being a clean sale. In tlie whole Dominion, out of 1)70,000 bales offered, 088,00.0 were sold, rejiresciiting a clearance of well over 98 per cent. This was a

great improvement on the SS per cent, ol' t lie previous year and the SI per cent, of the 1031-313 season. At the end of the last season just short, .of f>O.OOU bales were held, against 100,803 bales and 1310,337 bales in 1033 and 1032 respectively. Although there is conlidenco in the industry as to the prospects for the coming season, brokers prefer to be non-committal in, estimating the demand. Much depends on the activities of German and Japanese buyers. In some quarters it is believed that Japan will be seeking coarser wools, having been a big buyer of liner counts last season. Germany is buying to a limited extent elsewhere, and it is Imped that her buyers will be present for the earlv sales.
