Fatal injuries were received by the infant daughter, aged 16 months, of Mr. G. M. R. Bulte, of Waiuku, Auckland, when she was struck by a motor-car be* ing backed out of a garage by Mr. Eulte’s eldest son. A contract has been signed for the bitumen sealing of the highway from the Ohitiemmi County boundary, at Hikutaia, to the corner at Tirohia, a distance of nine miles. The work will commence in about a week, and is to be completed by the middle of January. This is the first section of the Ohinemim County Council’s 10-vear pjau for the permanent surfacing of the roads of the county. Next ( year the plan provides for this section being given its second coat o,f bitumen, and for the laying of the first coat on the rest of the road to Te Aroba.
