The weather was line and there was an excellent attendance for the V.R.C. races. Araehne. was untroubled and led always iu the. Wakelield Stakes. She is engaged in the Oaks. The last two Wakeful Stakes winners followed up with an Oaks success. It cost only SOgns as a yearling, and has won upproxiinately £3OOO. Uiniella led always and had a. surprise win in the Maribyruong Plate. Golden Promise ran a great race, but Lady Primrose and llonicr tired over the last furlong. Peter Pan dispelled any doubt regarding Ids condition and scored a brilliant win in the Melbourne Stakes. Hall Mark finished strongly. Nightly ran a good race. Chatham tired, also Sir Simper, but the latter would appreciate the drop in the weight for the Cup. There was a wonderful finish in the Victoria Derby by Tlico and Sylvandale, both trained by Fred Williams, who had won the Derby previously with Rampion. The latter, like Theo, won the A..J.0. Derby. Other dual winners in recent years have been Hallmark, Phar Lap, Trivalve, and Manfred. Hyperion ran a good race, and Marabou enhanced its Melbourne Cup prospects and fared better than its more fancied slablcinate Farndule. Though tiring, the pacemaker, Indite fought gamely to win the Cantala Stakes from the fast-finishing pair, Australia Fair and Closing. Time. Epigram, who had every show, was fifth. Silver King tired from the home turn. Panto scored a sterling win in the Hotliam Handicap, blit is up ,101 b. in the Melbourne Cup. Upoko Ariki ran a good nice. Latrobe finished strongly.
