THE SALVATION ARMY

DUKE OF YORK’S TRIBUTE INTER NAT 1.0 NA i, FORCE RETIRING HEAD HONORED (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 10 a.m. RUGBY, Nov. 2. Tim Duke ok York paid a warm tribute to the Salvation Army at a huge meeting at Albert Hall, London, when the Army said farewell to the retiring head, General Higgins. Cabinet Ministers, Ambassadors, and many other distinguished people, ineluding representatives of other denominations, were present. The Duke said that the Salvation Army made a great claim upon the regard, not. only of members of the Royal Family, but of all sincere and thoughtful people, because it helped, undoubtedly, to make more tolerant religious opinions and class distinctions. “1 believe, ’’ he said, “that there is to-day a more mutual sympathy and understanding, nationally and internationally, and the Salvation Army, among other religious and philanthropic societies, has had a full share in bringing that about. If an example is required as proof, it is here to-day. On this platform, leading representatives of Conformist, Catholic, Jew, Hindu and'Mohammedan faiths are met here in great accord to show appreciation of the leader of another religious body, and pay their tribute to the work of the Salvation Army."
