LIQUOR AFTER HOURS.
FINES IMPOSED ALLEGATION'OF A BOYCOTT (Per Press .Association.).. WELLINGTON, last night. A statement that certain Labor organ-i-ations were boycotting the riotel was made in the Court to-dav by Mr. J. A. Scott, when ■ addressing, the magistrate on the question ot a penalty in a case in which the licensee, Samuel Dunn, and the barman, James Simson, were convicted of selling liquor after hours. ilie police evidence was to the effect that some men unlawfully ' obtained liquor on the premises at night when the !it»’isoe was absent. <
Mr. Scott indicated that lie would enter a ionnal pica cf not gu.l.y, so as to elicit some evidence, and that he would then change the plcn to gnb+y. “I feel certain in my own mind,” said Mr. Scott when the magistrate had con-yic'.c-.l Dunn and Simson, “that t’>ere was a plot laid fA- Dunn. There is a vendetta between certain Labor organisations and Dunn at the present time, because Dunn will, not sack a particular servant there. Pickets are up and down outside that hotel day and night, and 1 feel certain that five seamen anil a /rienrt were sent to the hotel that - night for thp purpose of getting liquor and that as soon as they got into the hotel the police station was telephoned.” Mr. Scott said, he knew that was no mitigation of the offence,- but he wished to point out that this was‘a trap which was wilfully laid for Dunn. * ‘ Sjjhson .was fined £5 and Dunn 02.
