GERMAN TRADE DEBTS
BRITAIN OWED £2,000,000 NEGOTIATIONS TO RESUME TEMPORARY AGREEMENT (British Official Wireless.) Rec. 10 a.m. RUGBY, Oct. 15. Sir Frederick Leith-Ross, chief economic adviser to the Government, will leave for Berlin within the next day or two for the resumption of the Anglo-German negotiations on the question of Germany’s outstanding commercial debts and the financing of future trado between the two ’countries.
The newspapers emphasise that it is the Government's view that an arrangement for liquidation of old commercial debts must form a part of any agreement reached with Germany. These outstanding debts, a large part of which is owed lo Lancashire and Yorkshire textile interests, arc estimated by the press to amount in all to about £2,000,000. r ~ - Sir Frederick Leith-ffoss will lake a complete draft; agreement for submission to Dr. Schaeht. It is anticipated that the counter proposals will prolong discussion. The Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent hints at a temporary agreement, and says that owing to the economic state of Germany it may be impossible to conclude arrangements extending over more than two months.
