POVERTY BAY CLUBS SEASON OPENS NOVEMBER 3 The official opening of Iho Poverty Hay Cricket. Association’s 1934-35 season will take place at the Oval on November 3, it was decided at a meeting of the management committee last evening. The Thursday competition will start on November I,' but the Saturday of that week will see the season in full swing. Thero were present at last night’s meeting Messrs. 11. E. Maude, chairman, L. Thomson, P. C. Dwyer, I!. Connop, A. Hignall, G. N. Lockett, .T. Jennings, .1. G. A. McGregor, A. It. Baker, J. J. Macdonald, A. 0. Woodfield, and J. M. Kay, hon. secretary. A letter, was received from Mrs. IT. FForster, intimating that the writer would not be able to give her assistance during the coming season in connection with the serving of afternoon tea at the Oval.. The intimation was received with much regret, and the secretary was instructed to write to Mrs. Forster ex pressing the association’s appreciation o< her valuable past services. Tho Unemployed Workers’ Cricket Club wrote entering a team for the second-grade competition, and asking the management committee to remit the affiliation fee to the club. In view of the circumstances of the entry, the committee decided to grant the request. The grounds committee reported that the groundsman had made good progress with the preparation of wickets, anfi that practice wickets will he available by October 20. ,Match wickets will he in order by the end of the month,' the report added.

The report was received with satisfaction, and it was agreed that the Thursday competition should, start or November 1, the official opening of the season being set down for the following Saturday, on which day the Saturday competitions will be instituted. The allocation of practice wickets will he made at next week’s meeting of the committee, it was agreed.. Mr. L. Thomson was given authority to plant suitable trees for shade purnoses in the south-east corner of the Oval, this matter having been discussed previously with tho board of control.
