AERODROME JOB
(To the Editor of the Herald.)
Sir,—Your strictly reasonable leading article on tho aerodrome project in Saturday’s issue, is surely a complete statement of the position from standpoint; Vbut if such reasoning'is to take the-place of edmmtfu—or : gar don—“horse”.' Sense, then I say, and with all due reverence, God help uj.l 1 If “tho whole object of the sehbmo” is to fill up mciDs hours, iwhy not put all tlio relief workers on the job with teaspoons and billy-cans. If the idea is to distribute money to ‘the men, it would be simpler just to igive it to them. If we want the work Idone, why, in the name of all inventors and engineering workshops, should we not uso their products, if they arc more economical, instead of wasting men’s lives to satisfy a distorted mot a! sense? Tho answer is, of course, that wo must play the game according to tie rules or we will have bedlam. Quite so. But, whose game are we playing? Who makes the rules?- Did anyone make them, or have they “just growcd ”? It seems like a game of chance (o most of us, with'the dice.loaded against us. If wo pull out and refuse to “play” the penalty is starvation. Yet who is winning? It. seems high time a change was made in "the rules of our , economic game. It is farcical that av.c starve and want, while we give a Way our products overseas; and .cannot feed our own citizens while they use our ploughs and steam shovels to improve the landing ground wo already possess. I am, etc., H.T.11.
