■ MELBOURNE CENTENARY IMPRESSIVE SERVICE _ (Received Oct. 15, noon) MELBOURNE, Oct. 14. The centenary celebrations may now be said to have begun. Beflagged streets and illuminated buildings await the arrival of the Duke of. Gloucester oil Thursday. The city is crowded with visitors. Forty thousand people attended a thanksgiving service on the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday. A choir of 3500 was accompanied by five bands with 200 players. The Archbishop of Melbourne and ministers of other denominations offered thanks for the bless-, ings bestowed on Victoria over 100 years. The scene was one of striking reverence and calm after the tumults yesterday in connection with the Caulfield Guineas and football final. Though the celebrations on Tuesday may be menaced by a tramway stoppage over the wages dispute, the emergency transport arrangements are complete.
