CONDITION OP TROUT . “Everything indicates a very good fishing season,” states Mr Keane, conservator of fisheries at Rotorua. Mr Keane said the fish were off the redds, or spawning grounds, and judging by the size of the younger fish lie would say that spawning took place about May or June. It was the first time for at least six or seven years that the fish had left the redds -so early. Probably their early move was lue to the abnormal floods in Iho rivers during the past few months. Having spawned so early the fish had had ample time to recover and should In' in ■ excellent condition when the season opens. Mr Keane said there were hundreds of trout in the streams and lakes and those that he had seen were in fine condition
