NOISY MOTOR BOATS
(To the Editor of tlio Herald.) Sir,—Summer is coming round with its glorious suivshine and health-giving properties in which numbers of people bask, especially those dwellers on the banks of our rivers. Their pleasure, and those living within a considerable distance, is, however, completely marred by the intolerable noise created by motor boats. On the Continent and in England unnecessary noises of all kinds are prohibited by Jaw, and the health of the people is shown to be improved accordingly.
I understand these local noise producers are not subject to any rules, regulations, inspections or ta*es, even being exempt from petrol tax, and can therefore do as they please. These motor noises can be eliminated; therefore there is no excuse for such. With a few such boats plying on the rivers, Gisborne, especially on Sundays, would be a good place to keep away from. The sooner something is done to remedy this nuisance the better.—Yours, etc., RIVERSIDKR.
