Mr. Frank Mardon, who, for a number of years, lias been stock agent with the Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Cooperative. Association. Limited, at Hastings, has been appointed to the staff at, Waitoa of Messrs. Swift's (N.Z.), Limited. The view that preparations should bo commenced for the time when the reconstruction of St. John’s Cathedral, Napier, is undertaken, was expressed at the, Waiapu Diocesan Synod at Napier yesterday by Bishop Williams. “I am optimistic, and believe that, the worst of the depression is over,” he remarked.. “It is not likely that we shall rebuild the cathedral for many years, but it is not too soon to make a beginning with preparations. lam strongly of opinion that the work should be regarded as distinctly diocesan, and not parochial, in order that the relation of t.no cathedral to the diocese may be emphasised. It may bo wise, at a later date, to constitute the parish of St. John’s a cathedral district. The situation would he met by the creation of a board to go into the whole question, including nego tiations with the parish, and the establishment of a rebuilding fund.
