GISBORNE HIGH SCHOOL
TECHNICAL EQUIPMENT NEW WORK AUTHORISED Following upon repeated representations to the Education Department, the Gisborne High School Board of Governors has received information to the effect that the Minister has approved of the special technical block for boys, and the home science block for girl pupils at the school. These additions will mean a wide expansion in the scope of the instruction available at the school, and already a substantial increase in the school roll is being envisaged. The girls’ home science block will contain rooms for art, dressmaking and cooking, and will he equipped on the most up-to-date lines. In the boys’ technical section, engineering, motorengineering and woodwork will have special rooms, and the school will he able to offer facilities for day and night classes in these and other forms of technical work, as the demand develops.
The approval of the Minister of Education for the outlay on these blocks marks a stage in a long-fought campaign to secure for the Gisborne High School the advantages which other institutions of a like character in other districts have enjoyed for years. When the new buildings are completed, a new era in the history of the school will he initiated, it is firmly and confidently held by the governors.
Work is at present proceeding on one room iit each of the two blocks, authority for which was received early this year, the department having recognised that with the transfer of responsibility for technical instruction to the High School Board, the provision of additional space at the school was essential. The decision to erect the projected additions as one job is one that- will give much satisfaction to the hoard and to the public interested in the steady increase in the efficiency and influence of the school.
