MENINGITIS OUTBREAK
NO NEW DEVELOPMENTS TESTS if HINT! CONDUCTED RESULTS NEGATIVE SO FAR There were no new developments (tits morning in connection with the outbreak of cehro-spinal meningitis at Tolaga Bay. The members of the James family, now in the Cook Hospital definitely identified as being sufferers from the disease, were reported to have shown little if any change in their respective conditions, and regarding these cases, it was reported that nothing more could be done for the present, beyond the treatment accorded them in the hospital. The keenest vigilance is being maintained by the Health Department s officials, iii the locality affected by the outbreak, and swabs have been taken from a- number of people in the neighborhood for bacteriological test. So far, none of the swabs has shown a positive result under test,, and it is possible that the outbreak will be confined to those now in hospital. The families at Wigan, which were in contact with the James household during the period of incubation prior to the outbreak, have been isolated by the health authorities, and the members of these families are being -watched for possible developments which would foreshadow a further spread of the disease.
