CHICAGO METHODS
PRACTISED IN MELBOURNE ROBBERY AT REVOLVER POINT MELBOURNE, July 25. Chicago gangster methods were adopted in Melbourne on Monday afternoon, when four men, failing in their demand for a large sum of money, seized Maurice Webster, Princess street, North Coburg, placed- him in a taxi-cab and later threatened him at revolver point. They removed £8 in notes and silver from his pockets, The men first approached Webster at an hotel at Newport, and demanded of him that he pay them money which they declared lie owed to them. Webster refused to comply, and the men forcibly placed him in a taxi-cab and ordered the driver to proceed towards Collingwood. In the taxi-cab auother demand was made for the money. Webster said he could not pay the money as he had not got it. Then his captors drew revolvers and removed from his pockets the amount stated alxive. Webster, in order to secure his release, made an appointment with the men for next day.
