Ihe excavation work, both for the shops block and the theatre itself, u wen advanced and considerable quantities of timber and steel have been landed on the site. A dance in aid of Te Reingia School funds drew a smaller attendance than usual owing; to heavy rain, and a success was only scored on the social side. Mr. Duncan Heme’s orchestra provided the music, a number of vocal solos were given, and Mr. Uatuku proved a capable M.C. . Miss Jean Batten, New Zealand’s plucky aviatrix, is to make a call at Wairoa on Wednesday next at 10 a.m., her stay being limited to lialf-an-hour. The Mayor, Mr. H. L. Harker, is asking for a number of cars and lorries to transport the school children, and business people are askecl to close from 9.45 a.m. to 10.45 a.m.

Tnsre was a very satisfactory attendance at the last social and euchre tournament in connection with St. Peter’s Church. The Klick Klack orchestra provided the music, and the ladies served a dainty supper. The euchre prizes were won as follows :—Ladies : Mrs. Mann, 1; Mrs. Kelly, 2. Gentlemen : Mr. J.
