WAIROA A. AND P. SOCIETY

SHOW DATE SETTLED. OAK NIVAL AYLLK FUNCTION (Bei'ald Correspondent.) At ;i meeting of the committee of the Wairoa. A. and P. Society on Thursday afternoon Mr. T. Davey presided, sup]>crted by the vice-president, Mr. A. T. Carroll. Tins question of the Show; date and the -proposed two-days’ -Show was considered. The chairman reported on the result of it deputation from the Eating' Club, and the efforts made to get clear of the Ram Fair. Mr. A. U. Nolan, unofficially on -behalf of the Racing Club, said they could not get any alteration in the racing dates as they would interfere with the- circuitarrangements. .Mr. McLeod had given his kindly services, and as a- result the Ram Fair was brought a .week ahead. This was now definite, hut speaking as it farmer lie would say that January was ;i very busy time. Tire chairman mentioned that Swift's representative, who had a, very high opinion of the value of an A. and P. Show; to the freezing works, had made a line response in regard to prizes l when spoken to. He, however, suggested that the Show and races should be held, in the same week to avoid the inevitable dislocation of operations in two- different weeks instead of one. Messrs. Dudley Evans, 11. M. dcLautour and Carroll all favored the suggestion, the speakers emphasising the importance in regard to the farmers and the townspeople in respect to carnival week. It was stated that the race dates were January 31 and February 2, Mr. D. Evans -proposed, and Mr. J. Simpson seconded, that the show bo held on January 30 in conjunction with the Racing Club’s meeting. Mr. Carroll supported this, and said he hoped the racing people would come forward with increased horse entries. The date might mean a loss of some lamb and fat sheep entries, hut others would make up the total. Mr. Jefferson thought, the date too late. The earlier the Show was held the better, lie said. The motion was carried with one dissentient, the chair. man not voting. Apologies for non-attendanco were received from Messrs. J. Dickon, S'.. A. Dickie, D. Glyimn, B. L. Chambers, and F. G. McArdle.

The Meat Company confirmed the verbal offer of prizes. The suggested allocation. of prizes was adopted in all. but one respect, and a letter of thanks is to bo sent to the company. On the question of a two-day Show the chairman stated! that lie would like to sec this very much, but ho was afraid they were not advanced enough for that step yet. as they had nob sufficient accommodation for stock in the event of_a twoday Show.
