The game between Y.M.P. and Foresters A was even throughout. Tho only goal of tho match was scored within a minute of the start, Hale taking tho ball from tho 25 right through into the goal. In the Foresters defence, Moore, was playing his usual game, except that ho was giving sticks frequently. MAORI CUP GAMES

AOWERA LADIES’ SUCCESS WAITUIII MEN RETAIN CUTS Three cups were in competition yesterday between teams representing the Waituhi club and the Aowera club respectively, the Aowera representatives ■being the challengers in respect of all three cups, and carrying off one of the trophies after a really creditable display of hockey. The first match was played in the morning, when the men’s teams contested the Katerina Cup. This game was decided by a single goal, Waituhi winning .by one goal to nil, the credit for the winning shot going to T. Edwards, a. fast and audacious forward who finished off a sterling combined attack with an irresistible drive into the net. The Aowera team played a most scientific game, and showed that with a 'ittle experience they will be one of the most formidable hockey teams to he met with anywhere. Such science as they dis played was not bargained for in a team coming from a small coastal area, and the Waituhi men were forced to use all therir strength, skill and. experience to win the morning match. In the afternoon the Waituhi men repeated their success, when playing for the Tipene Tutaki and Hana Konewa Cup, the challengers being beaten by two goals to nil. The goals were scored by W. Tupara and George Tupara, both forceful front-line players. Once again the challengers gave a polished display, and as a majority of them were still of High School age,' their performance ap •pealed tremendously to' the large number of spectators who watched the game. In the ladies’ match for the Heni Te Ariki Cup, the Aowera club team vas meeting one of the leading Poverty Bay sides, and moreover one that was thoroughly experienced in all departments of the game. No weaknesses were dis played 'by the Waituhi ladies, but they were convincingly beaten by two goals to nil by the challengers. The latter were fast, well combined, and full of determination, and their sweeping assaults on Waituhi territory roused the spectators to a high pitch of excitement. Without a break, the game was played to the finish at the same pace, and at no time before the final whistle could the fate of the cup have been said to be decided. Both teams came close to scoring cm many occasions, and but for clever defensive work <by the fullback and goalies of each side there would have been a big crop of scores.

The members of the Aowera club returned borne to-dav well pleased with Hie result of their visit to Waituhi, and before their departure they exchanged rromises with the Waituhi club members regarding next season’s matches.
