AERIAL WARFARE
BRITISH PRECAUTIONS SECRET TESTS MADE * LONDON, August 2. The News-Chronicle says that the Home Office, in co'-operation with the Air Ministry and the War Office, carried out secret experiments in the East End of London lor making dwelling-houses proof against aerial attacks. As part of the- precautionary plans the Committee of Imperial Defence tried various methods of sealing doors and windows and enabling the inmates speedily to make at least one room gas-proof. It also directed attention to' the possi bility of making passages and cellars into protective airlocks by sheets wetted with water, and indicated that it was easy to make a house comparatively gasproof. Sub-committees are completing plans and will issue simple instructions for. the recognition of poison gases, dealing with infected clothing, and communal bomb and gas-proof shelters. Eight hundred Rod Cross branches are giving lessons on first aid in chemical warfare.
