STIMULUS TO BUILDING
AMERICAN CAMPAIGN PROVIDING BETTER HOMES (Received May 16, 11 a.m.) WASHINGTON, May 14. Mr Roosevelt to-day projected what probably. will be the last of his social economic experiments in connection with the recovery drive this session. Congress will be asked for .an appropriation of about £60,000,000 to-in-augurate a nation-wide home building and repairing campaign. It is! pointed out that the building tiades, which normally absorb 3,000,000 to 5,000,000 men, have been greatly depressed. It is hoped that at least 1,000,000 men will be reemployed through the Government’s efforts, and at the same time that the wretched living conditions of 'millions of Americans will be improved, Mr. Roosevelt to-day asked Congress for £264,000,000 to taper off emergency recovery expenditures during the coming Government year. More 7 than £180,000,000 is assigned for general relief and public works purposes.
