MOTOR ASSOCIATIONS
DISPUTE OVER NAME EFFORT AT COMPROMISE (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A further step towards settling motorists’ differences over tho question of the names of automobile associations and clubs has been taken by the executive of the South Island Motor Union.' 1 The union’s executive has approved of the general name of ‘ ‘ automobile association" for the whole of Netv Zealand, with tho territorial name in brackets in the various districts. The executive also favors the deregistration of the name of the “New Zealand Automobile Association. ’ ’ Mr. F. W. Johnstone, president of the South Island Motor Union, said he thought the suggested change of name was an excellent arrangement which would lead to the co-ordination of services throughout New Zealand. However, he was still of the. opinion that there should be some head body to keep in touch with Dominion or international matters. A letter received by the South Island union from the North Island Union, stated: “I have to advise that our executive held a meeting when it Was unanimously agreed to recommend the associations to change their names to “Automobile Association (territorial name in brackets) Inc.’ When this is done, tho name of tho Auckland association, for example, will bo ‘Automobile Association (Auckland) Inc.’ The Wellington Automobile Club will change its name to ‘Automobile Association (Wellington) Inc.,’ and so on. All the associations in the North Island have agreed to this course, and have settled their internal differences. ’ ’
