WHICH COMES FIRST?
(To the Editor of the Herald.) Sir,— Regarding the suggested restoration of cuts to Civil Servants, the present financial position of the country is such that a man or boy working on a farm, and getting 15s per week and board, has to pay the Government Is 9d per week in direct taxation. This being 5 per cent, on wages and 5 per cent, on estimated value of board. A girl or bov earning 10s ner week in a shop or office, pays 6d per week to the Government out of his or her ‘wages. Admitting that the financial position of t/ie country has improved during the last 12 month’s, and some relief rnav be possible, the question is who should get it first —the Civil Servants or workers such as thosel have mentioned?-—Yours. etc., JAMES INXKS.
