PRICE FIXING
CIGARETTES AND TOBACCO As the result of some unforeseen difficulties, reports a Dunedin correspondent, the fixing of retail prices has not yet been arranged for cigarettes and tobacco, which were last year exempted from the schedule of the Commercial Trusts Act, which makes price fixing illegal. It is understood that a representative of manufacturing interests is proceeding to Britain to investigate the price fixing system which has been in operation there for about a year and which is said to have given satisfaction to manufacturers, retailers and the purchasing public. A similar system is also in ppcration in South Africa, and it is hoped to evolve something which will be suitable to New Zealand.
