HIGHWAY SUBSIDIES
COOK COUNTY REQUESTS £25,000 ASKED FOR The Cook County Council is asking for £25,000 in subsidies for. main lighways during the coming financial year and nearly £6OOO in county road grants. Decisions in this respect were made in committee after yesterday’s meeting, requests for highway maintenance subsidies totalling £15,555 against anticipated county expenditure of £5185, while construction subsidies applied for totalled £9543 on a. £ for £ basis. If. was decided to ask for £5947 in county road grants, against which Hie council was prepared to contribute £3452. HIGHWAYS MAINTENANCE Applications for main highways main tenance subsidies, with the county quota in parentheses, were agreed upon as follows.: — Gisborne-Wairoa, via Morere (10.5 m. to 32.5m.).--£2310 (£770). Gisborne-Wairoa, via Morere (2.5 m. to 10.5m.).—£1530 (£510). Gisborne-Wairoa, via llangaroa (21 .dm. to 44.4m.).—£2400 (£800)/ Gisborne-Wairoa, via llangaroa (6.7 m. to 21.4 m.). £1260 (£420). Gisbornc-Opotiki, via the Coast (4.5 m. to 25m.). —£3150 (£1050).
